NHS LPP’s work to reduce single-use plastic
The impacts of single-use plastic waste on the environment and our health is devastating, and NHS London Procurement Partnership (NHS LPP) is working with colleagues on how we can all reduce our single-use plastic as part of our Greener LPP work.
Last month, staff came together to discuss what they can do as individuals to reduce their single-use plastic, which included introducing a ‘reusable bag bank’ at the office and encouraging staff to use reusable bottles and coffee cups.
Michelle McCann, Category Director for NHS LPP’s Estates, Facilities and Professional Team, said: “Small simple actions will make a big difference to our environment and I’m so pleased to see staff engaged in our Greener LPP work.”
Greener LPP, an initiative launched at NHS LPP earlier this year, focuses on different sustainability activities for staff to try and adopt in their daily lives.
Michelle added: “As an organisation, we need to do everything we possibly can to be environmentally friendly, from working with suppliers to find out what innovations are coming, to identifying suppliers that can provide products like surgical equipment in less plastic and packaging, to reducing plastic at NHS LPP HQ.”
There are lots of actions we can individually take to reduce single use plastic, such as using a reusable bottle/cup for water and coffee, taking reusable bags when going to do your food shop and avoiding excessive food packaging – so why not have a go at making one of these simple changes today!
