Clinical Assurance
Clinical assurance helps our customers to make confident and informed decisions with the knowledge that relevant products and services have been reviewed with patient safety, clinical effectiveness and operational practicality in mind.
Delivering procurement solutions with patient outcomes in mind
At NHS LPP, we understand that procurement decisions can have a direct impact on patient care, staff experience and organisational performance. This is why many of our frameworks and services undergo a process of clinical assurance to ensure that they are safe, effective and appropriate for use across NHS settings.
What does clinical assurance mean?
Clinical assurance means that, alongside meeting all relevant procurement, regulatory and quality requirements, frameworks are reviewed through a clinical and clinical-management lens to assess their practical application and impact across healthcare environments.
A clinically assured framework has been reviewed by an experienced senior clinician to ensure that it is:
• Safe and appropriate for patient care
• Aligned to recognised clinical standards and best practice
• Suitable for use in NHS healthcare settings
• Designed with consideration for both patient and staff experience
• Supportive of improved clinical pathways and outcomes
This process provides an additional layer of assurance in addition to procurement compliance alone.

How we assess clinical assurance
Our clinically assured frameworks are developed and reviewed against a range of recognised healthcare standards, guidance and regulatory requirements. This includes consideration of guidance and expectations from organisations such as NHS England, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Care Quality Commission (CQC) and other relevant professional and regulatory bodies.
We also consider wider NHS priorities and healthcare objectives to help ensure our frameworks remain relevant and fit for purpose.
Why it matters
Clinical assurance helps members to make informed procurement decisions by providing confidence that relevant products and services have been reviewed with patient safety, clinical effectiveness and operational practicality in mind. By combining commercial expertise with clinical insight, we help to ensure that procurement solutions support:
• Better patient outcomes
• Improved staff experience
• Safe and effective service delivery
• Greater confidence in purchasing decisions
• Alignment with NHS priorities and standards
Supporting quality and continuous improvement
Clinical assurance forms part of NHS LPP's wider commitment to quality, governance and continuous improvement. Through ongoing review and engagement with clinical expertise, we work to ensure our frameworks continue to meet the evolving needs of NHS organisations and the patients they serve.
