Our steering board provides oversight and assurance into NHS LPP’s culture, strategic focus, effectiveness, compliancy and financial sustainability - holding the executive team to account, to maintain the highest standard of performance and delivery of the member-agreed corporate vision and purpose. Beyond fulfilling a duty of care and ensuring that the organisation acts in the best interest of its people and its members, board members provide strategic insight across all the areas of influence and serve as ambassadors and advocates for the work of NHS LPP.

Chairman: John Goulston

John has been an executive director of NHS London, the strategic health authority for London, Director of Finance at two London teaching hospitals and is a former Chief Executive Officer of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He is currently Chair of the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust and Interim Chair of the Kent and Medway Sustainability and Transformation Partnership.

Vice Chair and Non-Executive Director: Hari Sundaresan

Hari is former Chief Procurement Officer of BT Plc and a current board member of the Business Disability Forum, which removes barriers in business structures and government to ensure greater equality for disabled people. An experienced business and procurement leader, he provides his FTSE100 senior director experience to mentoring businesses in governance and sustainability.

Non-Executive Director: Duncan Eaton

Duncan’s 40 year career in NHS management has included senior level roles as Operations Director at NW Thames Regional Health Authority, CEO at Bedfordshire Health Authority and CEO for the NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency. As a previous Chair and President of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, he played a major part in helping to achieve the Institute’s Royal Charter. Duncan was also a visiting Professor at the University of Bath School of Management and currently holds non-executive director positions at several healthcare and commercial organisations, including NHS LPP.

Non-Executive Director: Martin Shaw

Martin joined the NHS in 1981 and worked at the Middlesex and University College hospitals before transferring to St Thomas’ in 1983. He served as Finance Director at Guy’s & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) from 1998-2017 and then as Chief Financial Officer until his retirement on 31 December 2021. He continues to work as a director on Guy’s and St Thomas’ Enterprise Board and is a Non-Executive Director at NHS LPP.

During his time at GSTT, Martin was financially responsible for numerous substantial building projects including the Evelina Children’s Hospital and the Guy’s Cancer Treatment Centre. He was financially responsible for two major merger business cases between Guy’s & St Thomas’ hospitals’ and subsequently between GSTT and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital. Martin also led the finance input to many cooperative initiatives between teaching hospitals - Project Diamond within London, Shelford Group on a national basis and with academic partners (KHP). He was Chair of the HFMA Foundation Trust Network for 10 years and is a fellow of both CIPFA & HFMA.
